Semcorp to Set up HUF 65.5 bln Plant in Hungary

Shanghai-based Semcorp, which makes separators for electric vehicle batteries, will set up a HUF 65.5 billion plant in Debrecen, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced according to a report by state news wire MTI on November 10, 2020.

Semcorp has picked Hungary over three other European countries competing to become the site for the new plant. The 100,000 sqm lithium battery isolation membrane plant will be Semcorp’s first outside of China, which will create 440 jobs. The Hungarian government has agreed to provide a HUF 13 bln grant to support the project.

The total Chinese investment volume in Hungary has been over USD 5 bln, furthermore, more than 23,000 jobs has been created.
